Washington To Tax Marijuana Dispensaries - But They Are Illegal There..So Now What?

Here is what is happening now:  the government in Washington (state, not DC) wants to tax medical marijuana dispensaries.

The catch: dispensaries are illegal in Washington state.

The background to this story is that medicinal marijuana was legalized in Washington state in 1998 (seems like forever ago).

Medical marijuana patients can have someone grow it for them, someone specific and qualified, or they can grow it themselves.

However, since it is difficult to do, people have gotten together and created dispensaries in many parts of the state.

So, fast forward to now: do you think the government should be able to tax the dispensaries, IF they are illegal to begin with?

On a personal note, I think this might be a step in the right direction.  To tax this establishments means the government recognizes them as a legit business, right?

Maybe the next step will be legalization and then the government can tax that?  To be continued, of course...
